Hi y'all Anne here, from Alchemy of Anne's Anomalies! I have just had the intense pleasure of reading Courting Danger (Agents for the Crown) and this book was marvelous, dramatic, exciting, lovable, and beautiful. I absolutely mark this as one of my favorite books ever. I have read plenty of period pieces like Emma, Pride and Prejudice and many more, this book is right up there with them. The author did the time of the piece justice, the dresses were elegantly described along with the jewelery and settings for each fantastical ball that the lovely Ellen attended. The scenes painted are the things that form dreams, being dressed by your maid and having your hair just so, it puts you right there in the room smelling the lavender water perfume and seeing the glistening jewels adorning the young missus neck. This book makes men breathtaking and polite just as they were, when it was only proper to ask for a place on a dance card if a lady caught your attention. Christopher was taken with Ellen upon sight and while Ellen is young and feisty there is an obvious draw between the two. Second guesses and jealousy take the young love birds on an intimate journey of discovery, acceptance, and undeniable love. I can't even begin to do this story justice of describing the enticing way it is written, pulling you in and wrapping you in courting, balls, operas, moonlit garden walks and romance that makes you want to go back in time and get a piece for yourself. Now every story has a twist but this one goes deep into the story and feeds the emotions of the characters sight unseen. Christopher discovers truths forgotten that only deepen his love and protectiveness over the beautiful and stubborn Ellen. While he wants to protect her he can't fathom dashing that fire in her that he adores so much that she haunts his dreams and occupies his every waking thought. I am absolutely in love with this story and the characters and can not wait for the second installment so that I can be taken away into a beautiful story with amazing characters. 5 out of 5 stars for Elizabeth A. Lance and her book Courting Danger (Agents for the Crown).

Holy cow! Was this a real book? I'm not sure why I tortured myself and read the whole thing, maybe because I kept hoping that it would get better. It did not. First, I think the author was paid by the word. Way too much verbosity. Long descriptions of EVERYTHING. The whole thing was laid out on my like a bad Microsoft document. The chapters came at the end of sentences. It was hard to follow the extremely boring dialogue because it was not formatted properly. The bad guy was a caricature of Snidley Whiplash from the old "Dudley Do-Right" cartoons. I could just see him twirling a mustache while he plotted. Please, spare me. The hero was a twit, and the heroine was a spoiled brat. No matter what she did, she was cossetted. They were both pretty unlikable. When the hero starts referring to the heroine as "love" or "sweeting" all the time, you would think she would catch on that he likes her. Nope. The whole "Agents of the Crown" storyline was a second or third story line. All of a sudden, there is a secret agent in their midst, trying to catch the villain. There were lots of coincidences so that everything fell into place. Also, a little historical accuracy would be nice. I don't think girls coming out for their first season were allowed to wear dark colors. I have also never heard of a Countess being addressed as "Countess". You get the idea. Okay, I have to stop ranting and go read something worthwhile, hopefully it will erase this from my memory.
Not finished reading yet, but holds your attention. I've already purchased several more in the series to read on my vacation.
I love how the author weaves parts of English history into this unusual romance. Several of the characters were intelligent agents for the British government, hence the title "Agents for the Crown". The story had the right mix of romance and intrigue. The I look forward to reading more books from this series!
I am so happy that i found this book! I havent read a romance this fun for a long time. Strong characters and great imagery and a really fun story line!
