Guardian eBook Elita Daniels Blair Kenny

i have to say this book really grew on me. it's a nicely different take on vampires. nicely done, and got more interesting as the book went on. then, at the end, the book just stopped dead (yes, a pun) like the end of a chapter....where is the rest of the story? i felt sure i'd find books 2-5....appears there is just this book right now. i would like to read a much longer book set in this world.

if you are into vampire worlds/stories, i would definitely recommend this, with reservations. one, it's not kid friendly- it's for older teens at the very least. it has very adult themes. be forwarned. not just handholding in this book. actually i would prefer more handholding and less raw detail.... that's just me. less is more sometimes, in bedroom scenes, imho. two, know that there is no end of the story right now.....but hopefully there will be in the future. three, this is not twilight, but that is not said in a mocking way. i love twilight, and this book/world is quite the opposite..... but there is room in the written world for both visions!

great start on a series. would work very well as a graphic novel, or three....

but: needs a different book cover, one that would better describe the book, and make it more attractive to potential buyers. even though i read on kindle devices, the cover still sets the tone of a book, and although the story is about a young woman- not a teen- more needs to be shown about the content of the vampire world this author has created. just a thought.

Guardian eBook Elita Daniels Blair Kenny Reviews

Elita Daniels has a beautiful writing voice. The text is a pleasure to read. The physical descriptions are visceral and real. The characters feel authentic.

I wish that she wore her influences a little less on her sleeve. I prefer authors to reinvent the wheel for themselves. But then again, perhaps that's a trope of this sub-genre? I don't read a lot of modern vampire fiction. I'm generally of the opinion that vampires are better off as monsters than boyfriends. It's really a testimony to Elita's skill as a writer that she got me to put my bias aside and enjoy Guardian for what it was. And to be clear - the vampires are not glittery. They're bloody and emotionally complicated and adult - and they like to have sex all the time! )

The ending did feel a little sudden. This book is apparently meant to be the first act of a larger story, rather than one that stands on its own, but Guardian is a sexy and quick read. I will be looking for the sequel.
This might have been a good story if it hadn't been more about gratuitous sex than storyline. I liked the characters and concept quite a bit but every time I felt drawn into the story I was slammed out of it by completely unnecessary intercourse. Don't get me wrong, I like sex in my novels, but not in this case.
Elita has reinvented the vampire in this gripping story of a search for self and espionage. They are the result of a bio-weapon, of sorts, gone wrong. Alicorp, a government corporation gone amuk, doesn't even understand what they have unleashed on the world. Anna is a carrier vamp with a conscience. I was completely drawn into this world and the characters; I didn't want to put this book down. While Anna has finally found someone she feels she can trust, a plot line of espionage has developed that may change everything. This is going to be a great series, I can hardly wait. The story flowed well and I don't recall any editing errors.
Elita has captivated me. Though to begin with and me being pretty much "prudish" I found myself feeling somewhat uncomfortable, but made the decision to continue reading. I found myself lost in the world of vampires, seeing the conscience of one played out against those without a conscience. It was interesting to follow Anna who really was lost in a world in my opinion, that was not really one of her choosing. Because of the ending I am hoping for a follow up. I would recommend this book to any who has enjoyed The Twilight series, because in my opinion, it matches up page for page. I see this developing on the big screen and if I were Elita Daniels, I would be promoting it for future considerations to be made either into the big screen on a Television Series. Great read.
It is always a pleasure to read a first time authors books. Elita's originality on the vampire subject interested me hugely. The virus idea was innovative and added a new twist our usual vampire ideals. That the humans have rein over the vampires was even more amazing, especially seeing they are in reality the weaker creatures.

Each vampire is allocated a Guardian that pretty much acts as a babysitter more than protector. Checking in on the vamps and making sure they are taking their medicines, not killing people, etc.
We follow the life of Anna, an infectee turned vamp and experience all her trials and tribulations in her life, some good, some rather horrible. Each chapter slowly leads you on, unfolding the secrets and innuendos as it goes. I did find the ending a bit abrupt, leaving you hanging wanting to know what happens next.

Will be interesting to see where the next book leads Anna.
The blurb talks about secrets being revealed by a guardian. I read to 93%, then skimmed the rest. At 93%, there were still no secrets revealed. This was a bunch of disjointed snippets put together. Sometimes the pieces made sense and sometimes they didn't. I'm still trying to figure out what this book was. It wasn't terrible, it was just pointless. Though Anna felt passion of various kinds, I never felt them with her. The words were just words, words that didn't convey any real meaning to me as the reader. She was in love with somebody, but I never understood why or really anything about her. I never cared about her or her well-being.

Grammar and spelling were good. Book was well-edited.

I'm not sorry to have skimmed the remaining 7% of the book, and I have zero interest in any other books by this author. Your mileage may vary.
